One of Canberra’s best kept sports secrets is the Olympia Judo Club operating in Tuggeranong and boasts not only one of the best coaching teams in Australia but also rising champions – boys and girls and young men and women aged 10 to 21 years old.
Sports Wizard® is a long-time supporter of judo and has ties within Olympia, which is taking a strong team of 10 players all current Gold, Silver and Bronze medalists in the ACT to the Australian Junior Championships to be held in Geelong over the 11-13th June long-weekend.
One of the most exciting Canberra prospects for Australian Gold is 13-year old Jordan Potter, current ACT Under 55kg Senior Boys Champion. Jordan also recently won Gold at the ACT International Open and the Queensland International Open. He is undefeated in 14 competition matches.
Olympia’s comprises a large percentage of the ACT squad and it is anticipated they will win a number of Medals based on recent competition results.
Olympia Judo club is one of the strongest clubs in Canberra. With 4 years operation, Olympia’s success is based on its Coaches experience and their dedication to teach boys and girls the basics of judo and to prepare older players for National level competitions.
Olympia was established in 2012 by Sensei Stephanos Georgiadis a former Australian and Greek National champion and representative of both countries at world level competitions. He is Yon (4th) Dan black belt, accredited referee and coach, and also holds tertiary qualifications in teaching and physical education.
Olympia’s senior instructor is Professor Fermin Harnandez Sollet a Master of Judo with over 50 years’ experience. Fermin is Roku (6th) Dan black belt and has coached at Olympic level when leading the African national judo team at the Sydney Olympics and has also instructed at elite club level.
